Girls Take Longer Than Boys to Recover From Concussions?

Sex differences between men and women continue to mystify me, but this article explains why there may be differences in recovery between girls and boys who get concussions.
According to this article, “Master said it could be that [girls] have less access to on-site athletic trainer expertise when the injury occurs. That’s because the sports girls tend to do — such as soccer, basketball, and cheerleading — are considered “moderate risk” activities. Those activities often provide less sideline medical care than the male-dominated sports of football, ice hockey, and basketball.”

The take-home message here is that if your daughter suffers a head injury playing a sport, have a low threshold for taking them to the doctor as they will then recover faster with appropriate treatment.
